Top Tips To Make Your Tape Hair Extensions Last Longer

Tape hair extensions can represent quite an investment in your beauty armoury, so you'll want to make them last as long as possible. Natural and synthetic hair extensions both need special treatment, and there are no shortcuts to keeping your new locks looking lustrous, silky and well-hydrated. Here are some top tips on how to extend the life of your tape hair extensions.

How To Make Your Tape Hair Extensions Last Longer

  1. Shampoo and Conditioner The key to choosing the right shampoo and conditioner combo for your extensions is to avoid products that contain sulphates. Sulphates can be very harsh on the extension bonds, causing them to deteriorate quickly and shortening the lifespan of your extensions. Ask your hair stylist to recommend a suitable product range that is designed specifically for use with tape hair extensions. Wash your hair every other day, rather than every single day. If you have naturally greasy roots, use a dry shampoo to keep them looking fresh. When conditioning your hair, try to keep the conditioner well away from the extension bonds to avoid loosening them.
  2. Brushing your hair extensions It's a good idea to brush your hair at least twice each day. Brushing frequently is important to remove loose natural hairs that could otherwise become tangled with the extensions, causing them to become matted and damaged.
  3. Keep Your Hair Dry It's important for the longevity of your extensions that you don't allow them to get wet too often. If you go swimming frequently, don't leave your hair wet for too long afterwards; wash out the chlorine and dry your hair properly. Long periods of wetness place extra weight and strain on the bonds, as well as increase the likelihood of damaging mats and tangles.
  4. Using Heated Tools Although you can use heated tools such as straighteners and tongs on your extensions, you should always use ionic irons and hairdryers to minimise the damage to your hair. Avoid placing heated appliances directly on the extension tape, or you could melt it.
  5. Overnight care At bed time, always brush your hair, and then tie it back or put it into a loose plait so that it stays tangle-free overnight. Plaiting your hair also lessens the likelihood that you could lie on your hair and pull on the extension bonds.

In conclusion

You can take steps to prolong the life of your hair extensions by following the tips given above. For more advice on caring for your hair extensions, have a chat with your hair stylist.

About Me

Learning to do makeup

As a teenager I wasn't ever really interested in makeup. So once I was in my 20s, one of the steepest learning curves for me has been learning how to apply cosmetics. I wanted to have beautiful, natural-looking makeup that helps me to feel like myself while accentuating my best features. There are a lot of good makeup resources online, but I wanted to start my own blog to talk about cosmetics and skincare that's specific to people who are complete beginners and also adults. I'm not a self-proclaimed makeup guru for this type of stuff. I hope my blog helps you learn new makeup tips!
